Namely
Benefits Redesign
Lead Designer (7 months from inception to ship)
Almost everyone’s had a bad experience signing up for employer paid benefits. The experience is confusing and stressful, but it’s so important to get right. As the sole designer on the project, I worked with a product manager and 6 engineers to reimagine a better experience for how employees understand, select and submit their medical, dental, vision and ancillary benefit coverage.
Key Challenges
Dynamic flows based on employers unique benefits package and coverage rules
Designing layouts that would support unpredictable user generated content
Highly complicated interactions that would allow or disallow certain benefit selections
Process and Outcome
Generated smart workflows We approached it a lot like how TurboTax approaches doing your taxes. We broke down the logic for each coverage type and sequenced a flow that would allow users to get walk through each decision with the right information presented.
Improved on-time enrollment setup from 50% to 98% When launching the new experience, we got immediate feedback from our sales group, saying that the enrollment experience was the best part of their demos. It set a precedent and showed the org that new, fresh, updated design work could be part of the Namely winning strategy. Client feedback on the employee experience was extremely positive.
Decreased enrollment bug tickets by 80% When launching the new experience, we got immediate feedback from our sales group, saying that the enrollment experience was the best part of their demos. Not only was client feedback on the employee experience was extremely positive, we successfully decreased ticket volume during open enrollment setup season.
Namely’s Design System
Another focus of the design team was a revamp of Namely’s design system language. Working closely with our Front-End engineering team, we patiently pieced together a design system that succeeded in increasing developer velocity, design consistency, and strength in product design output. Ask me to show it to you!
